Angular Velocity Saturation in Planar Dust Cluster Rotation

چکیده

Dust clusters, consisted of one up to twelve particles arranged in a horizontal plane, were formed in an inductively coupled rf plasma. When an axial magnetic field was applied to the dust clusters, the clusters rotate collectively in the left-handed direction with respect to the field. It was observed in our cluster rotation that, for single ring cluster, the angular velocity of the rotation increased linearly as the magnetic field strength increased. And for double ring dust clusters, the angular velocity increases linearly at low magnetic field and but then saturated at high magnetic field ð 60GÞ: Comparison of our experimental results with theoretical models from literature has been made and an explanation for the angular velocity saturation of the dust cluster rotation

Shock-wave Heating Model for Chondrule Formation: Hydrodynamics of Rotating Droplets Exposed to High-velocity Gas Flows

Introduction: The data of chondrule shapes is a strong clue for elucidating the chondrule formation mechanism. Recently, the three-dimensional data of chondrule shapes has been measured by the X-ray microtomography [1]. The external shapes were approximated as three-axial ellipsoids with a-, band nd c-axes (axial radii are A, B, and C (A≥B≥C), respectively). The plot of C/B vs. B/A shows that t...

Coulomb Clusters in Axial Magnetic Field

The rotation of Coulomb clusters with different numbers of micron-sized particles is observed in an inductively coupled dusty plasma in the presence of an axial magnetic field. The rotation is found to be dependent on the particle number and configuration. Clusters with smaller numbers of particles require a higher magnetic field strength in order to initiate the rotation, the threshold magneti...

From Dust Devil to Sustainable Swirling Wind Energy

Dust devils are common but meteorologically unique phenomena on Earth and on Mars. The phenomenon produces a vertical vortex motion in the atmosphere boundary layer and often occurs in hot desert regions, especially in the afternoons from late spring to early summer. Dust devils usually contain abundant wind energy, for example, a maximum swirling wind velocity of up to 25 m/s, with a 15 m/s ma...

Three-dimensional organization of otolith-ocular reflexes in rhesus monkeys. II. Inertial detection of angular velocity.

1. The dynamic contribution of otolith signals to three-dimensional angular vestibuloocular reflex (VOR) was studied during off-vertical axis rotations in rhesus monkeys. In an attempt to separate response components to head velocity from those to head position relative to gravity during low-frequency sinusoidal oscillations, large oscillation amplitudes were chosen such that peak-to-peak head ...

Rotation of Horizontal Branch Stars in Globular Clusters

The rotation of horizontal branch stars places important constraints on angular momentum evolution in evolved stars and therefore rotational mixing on the giant branch. Prompted by new observations of rotation rates of horizontal branch stars, we calculate simple models for the angular momentum evolution of a globular cluster giant star from the base of the giant branch to the star’s appearance...
